Merge PDFs in the right order and check the result

Merge PDFs in a chosen order, verify the downloaded pages and extract a range. Follow a local processing example and understand document limitations.

Predict the output before merging

The file list determines the document order. Each input contributes all of its pages in its original order. A filename does not control placement once you reorder the list.

Suppose cover.pdf contains one page labeled C1 and report.pdf contains two pages labeled R1 and R2. Add both to Merge PDF. With cover first, the result is C1 → R1 → R2. Move report above cover and the result becomes R1 → R2 → C1.

  1. Select 2–20 unencrypted PDF files.
  2. Check the displayed filename, page count and size for each input.
  3. Drag files into order, or use Move up and Move down with a keyboard.
  4. Select Merge PDFs, then download the new document.
  5. Open the downloaded file in a PDF reader. Check its page count, the boundary between files, rotated pages and any information you rely on.

Need only selected pages?

Use Split PDF first if an input contains pages you do not want. Page numbers are one-based: the first page is 1. Commas keep selections in one output, ascending ranges expand consecutive pages, and semicolons create separate output files.

Page selection examples for a six-page PDF
SelectionResult
1-3One PDF containing pages 1, 2 and 3
6,1-2One PDF containing pages 6, 1 and 2, in that order
1-2;3-6Two PDFs, delivered together in a ZIP
2;1Two separate PDFs: page 2 first, then page 1

Duplicate pages inside a single group and descending ranges such as 6-1 are rejected. If you need to repeat a page in separate documents, put it in separate groups.

What “processed locally” means here

The page downloads its application files from this website. After you choose documents, JavaScript reads their bytes in browser memory and generates the result there. These two PDF tools do not send document contents to a PDF conversion server, and their page policy blocks network connections from the tool. No account or database is needed.

This does not make an untrusted PDF safe. Merging and splitting are not malware scanning, redaction or sanitization. A browser extension, shared device, local malware or your choice to share the resulting file is outside the tool’s control. Keep documents and the downloaded ZIP in an appropriate location.

Preservation and practical limits

The tools use pdf-lib to copy pages into a new document, preserving page content such as text and vector graphics without intentionally rasterizing it. Document-level features such as signatures, bookmarks, forms, attachments or accessibility tagging may not survive as expected. Save the original and inspect the output if those features matter.

Each input must be 50 MiB or smaller and contain at most 1,000 pages. A merge accepts up to 120 MiB of combined input and 1,000 output pages. Split batches allow up to 200 groups and 2,000 selected pages across outputs, with a 200 MiB generated-output cap. Your device may run out of available memory sooner. Password-protected, corrupt and unsupported documents are rejected; create an unencrypted copy in a trusted PDF application before trying again.
