Split PDF
Extract the pages you need or split a PDF into several documents. Choose individual pages or custom ranges, then download the result without uploading your file.
Maximum 50 MiB and 1,000 input pages. Up to 200 output files, 2,000 selected pages and 200 MiB of generated PDFs. Encrypted PDFs are not supported.
No PDF selected.
Separate output files with semicolons. Within each group, use commas and ascending ranges. Example: 3,1-2; 4-6 creates two PDFs. Repeated pages within one group are rejected; the same page may be used in different groups.

How to use Split PDF
Choose a PDF, then enter page groups separated by semicolons. For example, 1-3; 4-6 creates two documents. A group such as 3,1-2 extracts pages in that exact order. Choose One PDF per page to separate every page. Select Split PDF and download a PDF or ZIP.
How it works and its limits
The tool copies original pages with pdf-lib 1.17.1, preserving page dimensions, vectors and images without rasterizing them. Multiple outputs are packaged locally with JSZip 3.10.1. A new document may not retain digital signatures, bookmarks, document-level attachments, accessibility tags or interactive form behavior. The original PDF is never modified. Page numbers start at 1, ranges must ascend, and every selected page must exist. Output limits protect browser memory; smaller batches are recommended on mobile devices.
Frequently asked questions
Can I extract only a few pages?
Yes. Enter one group such as 2,5-7 to create a PDF containing those pages in that order. A single output downloads directly as a PDF.
Why is the result a ZIP?
When more than one document is created, a ZIP keeps all output files together. Extract the archive using your operating system’s file manager.
Does splitting delete pages from my original?
No. Your selected file is read only. Downloaded files are new documents, and your original stays unchanged.
Worked example: send a cover and selected sections
For a six-page PDF, enter 1,4-6;2-3 in Custom page groups. The first output contains source pages 1, 4, 5 and 6. The second contains pages 2 and 3. Because there are two outputs, the download is a ZIP containing two PDFs. A single group such as 6,1-2 creates one PDF with pages 6, 1 and 2 in that exact order.
These are physical page positions starting at 1. A printed page label, Roman numeral or cover without a printed number does not change the selector's counting. Open your source in a viewer and locate the physical page position if its printed numbering differs.
Choose a grouping rule
- One new document: separate selected pages and ascending ranges with commas.
- Several documents: separate the complete groups with semicolons.
- Every page separately: select One PDF per page, subject to the output-file cap.
- The same source page in two documents: use separate groups, such as
1-2;1,3-4. Repetition inside a single group is rejected to catch accidental duplicates.
Resolve a page-range error
A range must ascend: use 3-6, not 6-3. To reverse a few pages, list their individual positions in the intended order. Every number must exist in the source, and empty groups or incomplete ranges need correcting. Compare the generated summary with your plan before downloading.
After extracting a ZIP, open every output and check its page count and the first and last included page. The original stays unchanged. Splitting is not redaction: removing a visible page is different from reliably removing hidden information from the pages you retain. Use an appropriate redaction tool when that is your actual task.
For a complete page-order check and preservation limits, follow the PDF selection and merge guide. If you need a larger combined document afterward, the outputs can be added to Merge PDF.
