How to use this portrait tool
- Choose a clear portrait in PNG, JPEG or WebP format.
- Select Process portrait to load the local model and separate the person from the background.
- Inspect the edges, adjust threshold or softness, then download the transparent PNG.
The model estimates a person mask, then applies it as transparency to the photo. It is designed for close portraits of people, not products, pets or arbitrary objects. Fine hair, translucent details and difficult lighting can need a better source photo.
Your photo stays on your device
Images are read into your browser’s memory and processed locally. Nothing is sent to an image service, saved to an account or placed in the page URL. Clear the photo or close the tab when finished. Downloads are created only when you select a download button.
The self-hosted MediaPipe SelfieSegmenter model is designed to separate people from backgrounds. The runtime and model are downloaded from this website only when you start processing; the photo itself is never uploaded. See the model and runtime notice for version, license and source details. Frequently asked questions
Can it remove backgrounds from any object?
No. This tool uses a person segmentation model. Use a clear, close portrait; it is not a general object background remover.
Will the download be transparent?
Yes. The PNG keeps the estimated person and makes the estimated background transparent. The checkerboard is only a preview and is not included in the download.
Can I keep the original image resolution?
Images longer than 2,000 pixels are resized to a working copy before editing. The output dimensions are shown beside your photo; the original file is not changed.
Are my photos sent anywhere?
No. The image data is processed only in this browser tab. Files are not uploaded or stored by the website. This page has no advertising or analytics scripts.
Which image files can I use?
PNG, JPEG and WebP files up to 20 MB, 32 megapixels and 12,000 pixels per side are supported. Large photos are reduced to a working copy with a maximum edge of 2,000 pixels to control memory use.
